Fieldwork

Sociolinguistics, or the study of language in context, is heavily empirical and data-based. Unlike formal and experiment-based aspects of linguistic research, sociolinguists are interested in exploring the relations between language and society. In order to explore these relationships, we examine spontaneous speech and how speakers' social affiliations or contexts of interaction affect linguistic behavior. Thus, an essential part of my work includes the development and analysis of linguistic corpora.
